Another Trail to Explore
May 2026 • Stones River Greenway
I found another greenway today and decided to see where this one went.
I didn't really have a plan other than getting outside and walking for a while. It's getting hotter now, so I'm definitely realizing these walks are going to have to start happening earlier in the day if I plan on keeping this up.
This one had a little bit of everything — wooded trails, bridges, water, tunnels, and plenty of random things for me to stop and take pictures of.
I still miss home a lot, and there are days when sitting around thinking about everything makes it worse. Getting out like this helps. Even if I don't walk very far or do the whole trail, at least I'm not sitting still with my mind going a hundred different directions.
So I walked until I felt like I'd had enough, stopped whenever something caught my attention, and explored whatever looked interesting.
No real destination. Just another place I hadn't seen yet.
At some point I came across three or four armadillos just hanging out right beside the trail.
And when I say right beside it, I mean RIGHT there.
People were walking past them and they could not have cared less. They were just digging around and doing whatever armadillos do, completely unbothered by everybody passing a few feet away.
Of course I stopped because I'd never been that close to a bunch of armadillos just casually hanging out before. 😂
I stood there watching them for a while, took pictures, and eventually kept going.
Apparently everybody on this trail knew how to mind their business — including the armadillos.
Just Kept Going
After my little armadillo encounter, I kept walking to see what else was down the trail.
That's probably becoming my favorite part about these greenways. From the parking lot, you really don't know what you're going to run into once you start walking. One minute I'm surrounded by trees, then I'm crossing a little wooden bridge, and the next I'm standing underneath this huge metal bridge looking around at something I never would've known was there.
I didn't walk the entire greenway, and I'm perfectly okay with that. I'm starting to realize I don't have to finish a trail for the walk to have been worth taking.
I got out of the house. I was around people. I walked, explored, saw some cool stuff, met a small gang of completely unbothered armadillos, and came home feeling better than I did when I left.
I'd call that a pretty successful day.
